Why do you like it here?
Can I be real for a moment? We didn’t always love it here. We couldn’t find the beauty in Carlsbad at first. But when we started digging deeper, we found so many hidden treasures, like secret caves and hiking spots. As long as we made it a point to explore, there was always some new beauty to be found.
What noteworthy places are nearby?
Carlsbad Caverns are awesome, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can go in the evening when a giant group of bats emerge from their cave. Sitting Bull Falls is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert. It was our favorite place to go last summer. You can take a short hike to reach the falls, and then you can jump into the water. Also, if you’re willing to do a little extra driving, Cloudcroft and Ruidoso are beautiful mountain towns with great hiking trails. We really enjoyed horseback riding at Grindstone Stables in Ruidoso. It’s something for all ages so the whole family can do it together.
What’s your favorite part about this view & why?
It is a nice, quiet spot away from the hustle of the oil boom town. I love that our kids could still enjoy being outside their home. It’s a reminder that while we’re always in pursuit of our next adventure, taking the time to rest and enjoy the present moment is important too.
How do you decide where to go next?
This is such a crazy question for this time of our lives. As an oilfield family, we don’t usually get to choose. We just go where the work is. As of spring 2020, we have no choice but to go back home because there is no work for us right now. We are excited for the day when we know where our next destination will be.
Which views are on your bucket list & why?
After being in desert towns, our hope is to look out our window and see the Pacific Coast some day. Montaña de Oro State Beach would be incredible for all the sea life we could see close up. Or Pismo Beach for the cinnamon rolls and relaxing atmosphere. San Simeon has legendary elephant seals and Big Sur has famous incredible views, trails and giant redwoods. So anything on the coast would be a dream.
